Surface modification of Ti-6Al-4 V by gas–liquid mixed EDM

Ti-6Al-4 V alloy is widely used in many fields due to its excellent properties. However, further applications are limited by low hardness and poor wear resistance. In this paper, gas–liquid mixed electrical discharge machining (G-LEDM) process was applied investigate the performance surface modification alloy. The effect of peak current pulse duration on morphology, roughness, cross section micro hardness, resistance were investigated using nitrogen special oil dielectric. results indicated that G-LEDM has better with fewer pores, shallower larger craters smoother surface. A continuous thicker recast layer obtained process. X-ray diffraction demonstrated TiN phase formed sample about 1329.5 HV, which 3 times matrix, improved accordingly. modified
